Waiting for my plane...

I lay in bed at night with my mind racing thinking of all sorts of things I could or should write about. But at that time I'm trying to fall asleep and I don't want to get back up and start writing. I need a device that registers my thoughts and will write for me when I'm to tired or lazy to do it myself. Wouldn't that be awesome to be able to hook up to one of those while you sleep and see what kind of things actually register in your mind when you're sleeping. The dreams you forget and subconscious thoughts. My mind goes so fast and I can't focus on anything for very long before another thought takes it's place. If I had a device like that it would go up in smoke minutes after I started using it. People often ask what I'm thinking about and a lot of the time I respond, "I don't know." Although sometimes it may be to avoid saying what I'm actually thinking, most of the time it's because I really don't know. My thoughts are so jumbled they don't make since. Before one thought can finish processing another one jumps in. And if I'm thinking about a specific situation or topic, then my thoughts will jump back and forth between sides and contradict each other. The good thing about that is that I view everything from multiple angles. The bad thing is that I can never make up my mind and stick to a decision. I've had a lot of serious life altering decisions to make lately and I get so confused. I go back and forth constantly between decisions. They just keep getting delayed. Hopefully while in Seattle this weekend, I will be so busy having fun, I won't have to think about much and I can just enjoy myself. Happy birthday to my great friends Casey and Amie. I'll be seeing you shortly.

I'm alive

Well, I managed to keep this up long enough for the assignment that was due, but obviously I've been slacking since I turned it in. I did get a good grade on it though. So here I am again. Just trying to get back in the habit of writing every so often. This is the closest thing to a journal I have I guess.
I have recently started attending the midsingles activites with my church. We have the YSA which is single LDS members between the ages of 18 and 30 and then there is the MSA which is normally 30 to 45 but now it starts at 27. :-) I feel that I fit in better with the midsingles than the young singles. I have a lot more in common with them. I don't know that it's any less drama, just a different kind of drama. I've had a lot of fun at the few activitites I've been to. I've made many new friends, however most of them are over 2 hours away given that the main activities are held in CA. I intend on helping spread the word here in the Reno area though so we can start holding activities here. Our group is so small right now. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do.

The Job Hunt

I got a wake up call this morning from my staffing agency saying that the girl they had assigned to work a job today got rear ended and couldn't make it in and how soon could I make it in. Well, I feel sorry for that girl but I'm glad I got the call. I could definitely use the money and I am enjoying the job as well. I have one more day there. The sucky part is I planned on doing most of the review for my midterm tomorrow so it was fresh in my mind and now I have to work so it looks like a late night of studying tonight instead. Here goes...

Yea for hulu

I'm staying with my parents right now given that I am unemployed at the moment but they don't have cable. They got used to being empty nesters and cut out all the unnecessary bills. I thought it would be really hard missing the shows that I normally follow. It actually wasn't too bad for the first few months. I did a lot of reading instead. But then hearing about the episodes that I was missing on a few of my shows was enough to make me miss them again. That and I needed a short break from reading. Although, I still miss watching sports, I can now catch up on my favorite shows on hulu.com. I spent the last several days catching up on the last 5 weeks worth of shows I've missed. I'm glad I have a computer now that can support watching videos. Yea for hulu.

Mid-terms

So the plan for today and the rest of the week until Thursday, study for my communications mid-term. I've read every chapter and done every assignment but I just don't retain all the information I'm gonna need for this long. I basically have to reread all of the chapters we've gone over up till now. I started last week with the easiest and most recent chapters but I figured the closer to the test that I read, the better.
And I still have to find a dress for my halloween costume. Time to start making some phone calls.

Mom's Birthday

Friday was my mom's birthday. I assumed we would be doing something as a family but she decided to go with my dad to the temple that night. My sister and my niece came over and had dinner with me while my brother and his fiance went out and had their pictures taken for their wedding announcements. Most of my immediate family as well as a couple friends adopted into our family meets every Sunday night for family night so my mom decided to celebrate her birthday with the family tonight instead. Everyone came over for dinner and we had take-n-bake pizza so my mom didn't have to do much cooking as well as homemade carrot cake and an applesauce cake. It was a delicious evening.

Still tired

So for the continuation of our activity, we went on a short hike today up near Pyramid Lake. It wasn't too difficult or long but it was just long enough for my hip to really start hurting. It started locking up on me and I had trouble lifting my leg. But aside from the pain toward the end, it again was nice and relaxing to just get out. I haven't done any hiking in quite some time so I enjoyed it. We first met for breakfast then carpooled out there. We hiked a while then sat on some slightly uncomfortable rocks and had another lesson and brief discussion before heading back to the cars. I managed to get confused and lead us the wrong way on a long round about way back but we made it back. Then we came back and made Rice Krispie treats with the flavored marshmallows which came out pretty darn good. Due to lack of sleep last night, I am again exhausted. I think it's time for a short nap.

I'm tired

This has been an interesting week. I had another interview this week with an insurance agent. I haven't heard anything back yet but the agency that set me up with the interview has called and given me another temp assignment for next Saturday so I'm assuming that probably means I didn't get the job. This is tougher than I thought it would be. The job market here really stinks. I think I should have stayed in Seattle. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I get some sort of income coming in soon.
Anyway, tonight I headed out to Pyramid Lake with my midsingles church group. It was a good relaxing night. We had a lesson and then sat around and visited and introduced ourselves to those we hadn't met yet. I meet someone new every time. But it's been a long night and now I must get to bed to continue our activity tomorrow.

Wild Horses

I love photography. I've never actually taken any classes but I definitely want to. At one time I was in the habit of taking my camera with me everywhere I went. I got a new digital camera last year for christmas. Nothing too fancy but it is a nice one, although I would like an even better one, but they're too expensive. Anyway, since I've moved back here to NV, I've gotten out of that habit and I always forget to grab it before I go out. The other day I went shooting with my family up in the hills and there were wild horses everywhere. I couldn't believe it. Apparently they've always been there but the only place I knew there were wild horses was up in the Virginia City Highlands. I was so upset I didn't have my camera. They were beautiful and there were at least 20 of them right near where we stopped. I tried to use my phone but it doesn't work as well as a camera. I tried to get up close enough for it to work but when the horses looked at me and quit flipping their tails I figured it was close enough. My camera has 10X optical zoom and I could have gotten some awesome pictures with it. I plan on going back out to get some pictures but unfortunately I don't have a vehicle for off-roading so I need to wait till someone else is available and willing to take me. I can't wait. I only hope they're as easy to find next time.

Family News

For those of you who don't know, I have three siblings. I have two older, a brother and sister, and a younger brother. My older brother is 14 years older than me so I basically grew up as the middle child given that he moved out while I was still young. My sister is only 3 years older than me and is married with a 2 1/2 year old daughter. The baby of the family, my little brother, is 6 years younger than me. He just got back from serving a 2 year mission in El Salvador in August, just two weeks after I moved back. My parents went from an empty nest to having us both back home. Well, this past week my younger brother got engaged. This is so crazy because the last time I was here (before I moved to Wa) he was only a freshman in high school. My ex-husband and I used to go pick him up from middle school. Now I come back and he, as well as several kids I used to babysit, are all getting married. Moments like these make me feel so old. I'm too young to feel old.

Hmmm...

This is kinda hard to do every day. I can't always think of something new to say.
I am reading the Twilight series right now. I've never read them before nor have I watched any of the movies yet. I finished the first book and am now starting on the second. So far I really like this series. They're a pretty easy read. I got through the first book in a week which is pretty darn good for me. Of course I have a little extra time on my hands given that I'm not working. I read every night before bed. I only wish my textbooks for school were as easy to read. They always put me to sleep. I can never make it through a whole chapter in one sitting. Anyway, I like reading books before I see the movies because I like to try and picture the characters in my own head and come up with an image on my own and then compare it to the image they come up with in the movies. It's been a little more difficult with this series with all the hype and publicity they've been getting even though I haven't actually seen the movie. I will be watching the Twilight movies as soon as I'm done reading the books. I'm definitely looking forward to them. For now it's off to trying to read my textbook which means I'll be taking a nap in a half hour or so. :-)

Into the Woods

This weekend I went to see "Into the Woods" performed at the TMCC Theater here in Reno. It was incredible. They did a wonderful job. This production is a mesh of fairytales including "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Little Red Ridinghood," "Cinderella," and more all placed into a world together and how their stories intertwine. It's been about 7 yrs since I've seen a TMCC production and seeing this one has made me want to get back into theater myself. The characters were hilarious and the singing was amazing. All the actors were wonderful but Jenny O, who plays the witch, really caught my attention. I laughed a lot through the entire first act and then the second act took quite an unexpected turn. Let's just say not every character lives happily ever after in this rendition. I would highly recommend seeing this production if you're able. Here are the dates:
Oct. 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 at 7:30pm
Oct. 24 and 31 at 2:00pm

$17 Adults
$15 Students
$10 TMCC Students

I'm glad this week is almost over. It's been a long one. I was busy all week and yet I feel like I didn't get anything accomplished. I had so much homework and reading that it feels like that was all I did all week long. I did pull out some Halloween decorations earlier and decorate the house a little. With how few decorations I have, it didn't do much for this house. You almost have to look for them to notice them here. I guess I'll have to dig out my parent's stuff also to make it noticeable. I'd love to get some more of my own but currently lack the funds. Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. I love dressing up and of course I love candy. One thing that stinks about getting older is that I can't go trick or treating anymore. At least not until I have kids. :-) But the dressing up I still get to do. I'm not sure what I'm gonna be this year yet. I have to be crafty and piece something together with stuff I already have or wear an old costume. I have a few ideas but not sure how any of them would work yet. It is getting closer though so I guess I have to start putting a little more thought into that. Well, off to read more Twilight. I may just finish the first book tonight.

Well, to start...

I am mainly starting this blog for the IS 101 class I am in. I have never done any blogging before so I am new to this, but I imagine it could be fun. We have a family blog that I have contributed once but I don't imagine that counts. I guess it's just a habit I have to get into so I can actually keep up with it. I'm great at starting things but they only last a couple weeks and sometimes only days so hopefully I can follow through with this one. I've talked about starting one in the past just for random rantings and ravings about stupid things I see or experience during the day, but obviously I never did. Since I have to basically write every day for 2 weeks, I don't know what this one will include. I guess we'll have to play it by ear and see what sounds interesting to me each day. Well, here goes. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy.
